Research group: PhD student Anna-Kaija Eloranta, Prof. Timo Ahonen, Professor, Adj.Prof. Tuija Aro, PhD Vesa Närhi, PhD Juha-Matti Latvala

This follow-up study focuses on adults (over 20 yrs of age; N = 517)) who have been, in their childhood, diagnosed as having learning disabilities (LD). The aim of the study is to find out to what extent LDs continue into adulthood as cognitive deficits and how different types of LDs are related to negative outcomes of education, employment or use of social services. We also search for associations between factors in the childhood background, in the adulthood life events and personal characteristics of persons and adult outcomes. The aim is to find resilience factors related to positive outcomes and factors that predict negative development. The study is conducted at the Niilo Mäki Institute and it is funded by Kela (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland), 2014-2016.
