Early prevention from neglecting education in early childhoodThe Niilo Mäki institute has various collaborators. The University of Jyv äskylä has intense partnership with NMI in applying for various research projects and the family clinic of Jyväskylä aids NMI in organizing clinical services for children at the children's' research clinic. The purpose is to develop and predict diagnostics for learning disabilities and further developing remediation techniques, as well as creating additional information about early prevention and remediation for learning disabilities. The backbone for the development of the diagnostic criteria is especially the accumulated data at the children's' clinic of the Niilo Mäki institute. Acquired data is comprised from over 500 children that have attended assessment for research purposes. The age of these children varies from the age range of 7-15, and all children have received a broad neuropsychological estimate of their cognitive development. The aim is to discover efficient schemes of estimation, which can most adequately facilitate the recognition and understanding of neurocognitive problems related to learning disabilities. Validity of all research papers is ensured via international publishing. On the other hand, some material has exclusively been published for designated Finnish employees in the realm of learning disabilities and this published material is verified to have immense quality in the field of research and development. Thus the central theme for the Niilo Mäki institute has become to intensely join multidisciplinary research, development in methods, applied methods, publishing and training programs in order to have a strong foundation for the prevention of risks in developmental malfunction due to learning disabilities. Until now, ten years of research has brought approximately three hundred published research papers. The connections from the University of Jyväskylä , merited international researchers, and international published material guarantee that an association to the newest neuropsychological field is maintained in all the activities conducted by the Niilo Mäki institute. In return, the Niilo Mäki institute functions as the head of the table in neuropsychology along with the University. Links
